I took my 54 out of the garage yesterday and went to our first Saturday old car gathering at the local office depot parking lot. Generally about 25 to 75 vehicles of various ages and condition shown around by owners and a drawing at the end for gimme hats from local vendors. Mostly car nuts shoing off parts they have added or improved on their cars since last time. Amazing the number of owners who lost numbers (still relating stories) of great vehicles to Hurricane Ike. Yesterday as I was walking back to my truck to leave, there was an attractive aging couple (my age) standing in front of my truck actively engaged in a fairly one sided conversation. The Mrs. was pointing at my truck and artfully explaining to her stronger half (I assume) that this old green truck was exactly the kind of vehicle she wants and exactly the color she wants. He grumbled something as they turned away and got into their brand new Vette to depart the evening. Made my day. Jim
Sweet truck! there are some nice 54's on here. I can't wait for some meet to go to! Weather is finally nice here! Glad you had fun at your show!!!
PPG Dark Forest Green My wife and I picked the green from a PPG color chart about 10 years ago. It was a 1972 Mack Truck color called Deep Forest Green, a PPG base and clear. The paint shop owner is a friend of mine who insisted the paint had to be easy to match and free of metal because we painted the truck in pieces. It has held up well with minimal care, but garage kept and only rained on twice in 8 years. Jim
Sweeeeet! Jim, I LOVE seeing pictures of your truck! I especially like the pictures that show you _DRIVE_ it! Down sandy dirt roads no less. With branches on each side! Maybe you can talk Ken into getting his truck out and follow you down that road?
Thanks for the paint identification! Clearly my truck has paint in its future, and this is pretty much the color I had decided on even before I had a truck. My wife likes the color as well, although I think that she is more amused by my enthusiasm and the fact that the truck is from her birth year. (Oops, did I just give her age?)
Boy Scout Camp Thanks Zig, That was last summer when I drove about 80 miles to drop my 15 year old off at Summer Camp. I walk the roads before I take my 54 down them. Ken would likely follow if he were there. If you can't take your AD truck out and show it off to just about anyone, what fun is it? The scout camp was founded in 54, same year as my truck, I was just having a bit of my kinda eclectic fun. Jim
The old girl in the corvette has good taste, in trucks. There is a nice green one in town. It looks like it would be easier to keep clean than red.
