Rick, Could the number on the driver's side be "IA" not "1A"?

The only number I found that comes close to the number you listed indicates that an IA is a 4.57 ratio.

    Hey,

The 44-1 number might indicate that it is a Dana 44 axle. It's a ten bolt (at least mine is, but it's a front axle). Check a place called www.drivetrain.com and they will have pictures of the different axles or at least the covers. If you can match one up with yours by the bolt pattern and spacing then at least you'll know what it brand it is. My 65 4x4 is stock and it came with GM Corporate 12 bolt truck axle in the rear and a Spicer/Dana 44 in the front.

    Hope this helps.
