I need the dimentions of the bed mounting blocks. A friend has a 1949 3100 short box and we can't find them. Also how many blocks are there? Thanks beebee
beebee, on a '49, you should have 4 of them. They are approximately 2 1/4" high. However, it is more important to ensure that the bed is parallel with the running boards/side splash aprons than it is worrying about the exact dimension of the blocks. When I put the bed on mine, I ended up with taller ones in the back than on the front (or was it the other way around?) Point is, just make sure that the "lines" of the truck match up and you'll be fine.
beebee, I'm not gonna argue the point, but if I were a betting man, I'd bet you a Coke, that if you cut those blocks at 4" plus all the way around, the bottom of your bed side will be 2" too high to lay up flush to your splash pans.

Yes that is my 52. That pic was taken the day i got it home. It looks a lot better than it is. I found after a few months that the paint was holding the rust together.
I have only done about a thousand 47-55.1 and my advice is to follow Ken's advice. Don't pay one damn bit of attention to dimensions given by any book or from any source but rather use temporary blocks and shims until the bed is positioned to LOOK right, then measure the gap between the bottom of the bed crossmember and the top of the frame and custom cut a block to fit. Likely each position will take a different heigth of block.
I bought a 2x2x4 stick of oak, cut them to size, drilled them across the grain, then soaked them in oil for a few days. should hold up for quite a while. Mine are made of 2x2 steel tubing in the 51.
I used 1.5" steel square stock in place of wood blocks . Also added two 1/4" rubber pads on the frame & bed. Everything is lined up nicely on my '51.
Wooden Bed Blocks Many years ago I discovered only the taillight harness had been holding the bed to my 49's chassis . The good folks here made me up a set that are still working fine , the dimensions are buried within that series of posts from me... Good luck hunting .
I used the Chevy Duty Blocks kit with the rubber pads. I think they were poplar and I soaked them in spar varnish. I am very happy with them, but to be honest, I ain't hauling gravel either. The gap to the splash aprons is paralell and correct. But I can't remember the exact dimensions, but I can crawl under and take some measurements. My '53 truck always was a country gentleman. I am the 3rd owner - the original buyer was a painter I was told. The second owner was a gentleman farmer (Kentucky) who welded in a steel non-skid plate over what was left of the original pine boards.
