I'm having trouble tuning my single barrel carb. for my truck (please don't laugh?!). The engine it's on is a 64-65 Pontiac 215 straight six. Don't ask me how it got there, but it is! Anyway, I just installed a rebuilt carb on it, but the idle is impossible to set right. The engine just wants to die once I step off the gas. I just need to know some starting point so it can idle correctly. I know the idle mixture screw should be about 1 1/2 turns out to get into the ballpark, but the choke adjustment screw (manual choke) I'm not sure of. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm gonna take a shot at this. On your choke, is it fully open? After I had rebuilt my carb the choke was fully shut, and didn't run worth a darn.(it loped real bad)On mine there is a spring that needed to be tensioned to make the linkage work.Mine is a rochester 1 barrel. You'll also have to reset the idle, and then fine tune the idle mixture screw up to 1 1/2 turns.
    I hope this helps.
