After over a year of tinkering with fuel injection I finally decided to make a switch to a carb. I got tired of fooling with it. I'm sure it was probably something simple but I just kept having problems with it. Went with an Edelbrock 1406. Still a bit of tweeking to do but so far I'm pleased. Now that I've converted from TPI to a carb I have to figure out the easiest kit to use to control the lockup on my 700r4 tranny. For those who may have done this swap already, how did you wire yours and what was the cost?

    Lock up kit

    Robert

We have used the TCI lockup kit on 7 or 8 vehicles. It is vacuum operated and is easy to install with the trans in or out of the truck. The only problem that we have had is with TCI vacuum switch whitch is rather small. We use a GM switch # 14032087 That is for a late 80's pickup with a 350 trans with a lockup converter.Summit sells the TCI kit for around $80 and the GM switch is around $45 from your local GM dealer.I have this set up both of my 55's(car and truck).Hope this helps.

I was hoping to find an external kit so that I wouldn't have to drop the pan. I saw a really nice one (and simple too) from Larry's Electric that tapped into the 4th gear pressure port, but the tranny I have does not have this port. I has provisions for you to drill & tap the servo case but not too sure I want to do that. I've found an electronic unit that mounts on the dash for about $160that's basically a plug and play setup.

The TCI kit works off the 4TH GEAR PRESSURE SWITCH ALSO.yOU DO HAVE TO DROP THE PAN BUT IT CAN BE DONE IN 30-45 MIN.yOU THEN HAVE TO RUN A SWITCHED HOT WIRE TO THE TRANS AND A VACUUM LINE TO VACUUM SWITCH WHICH MAKES GROUND.

    Good Plan !

Using a relay is always wise .

Using these cube typ relays is better yet as most of the Bosch & Hella brand ones are rated 50 A. continuous duty and are cheaply available anywhere in Earth .

I've been using them for driving and fog lights , electric windows and heated backlights , starter booster etc. for over 20 years now...

Look around for the better ones that come with atab on the top for easy attachment , some even have built in ATO typ fuses .
