Just got the truck. Trying to bring it back to original. There is only one switch to control the fan for the heater.

I want to determine what is needed ... anyone have pictures, manuals etc?

I think I need a water flow controller, cable for defrost/heater diverter ....

I did find a heater box unit. I has the blower fan, the heater core.

thanks for any help. Great site.

If you look through our sponsor's catalog. I think you will find all those controllers, cables and valves, including rebuild kits. Its a pretty easy and satisfying rebuild. The original hammer steel paint is available at Lowe's or Home depot in rattle can's. Also the decals and medallions are reproduced and available in the catalog. Use a voltage reducer if you have converted to 12 volts.

    Good luck,

    Welcome !

Your best bet will be to buy a copy of the accessory installation manual , it's about $10 and shows not only what it looks like but exactly what and where every single nut , screw , bolt , washer , wire , grommet etcetera goes .

It varies over the years and which heater you have .

Thanks for this info. I didn't realize the accessory installation manual existed! Just order it.

I need to find a Heater Control Valve ... and the shaft and pieces that go with it. Any suggestions? This site needs to have a core in order to buy one.

The original hammer steel paint color .... is it bronze? I saw somewhere thats what is was, I think Hammerite rust cap bronze.

Thanks guys for the support. Real newbee but loving my truck!

    Nate-

I am quickly finding this to be true. Wow! I just ordered the Accessory Installation Manual.

Thanks, BTW, for the reminder. Kind of under the old "one size fits all" and my Dad's favorite "... yeah we got it" and "It's perfect ...." type of thing.

    Heater Parts

You'll find the seller above is actually an honest guy who sells parts affordably , he sold me N.O.S. door latches for my '49 some years ago but occasionally drinks & writes when he's grouchy... :p

    Hi MotherTrucker ! :D

Maybe so... You will also find that Nate is a pretty good source for info. but at times he is incorrect & somewhat hard-headed when you point out anything that he has posted that is incorrect.
I have known the guy for over 10 years now & he & I have a long history of bantering back & forth :D

    DZT,

Do you have any of the cable holder brackets that secure the cables to the bottom edge of the dash? There is one for the control rod from the Ranco valve and another for the defroster redirector.

    What is your web link?

Actually, The Hammersteel paint I've seen in several colors. I think the original was silver/gray. Which looks good on my black dash. But, recently I did a 53' with a non-original beige dash and saw that there were the other colors as well. I did see bronze for sure as well as silver. There may be a copper too.

    DeLuxe Heater Color

I seem to remember them being a silver(ish) hammertone and the grungy unrestored one I looked at recently bears this out .

Nonetheless , many experts tell me the bronze(ish) hammertone from Eastwood is the 100 % correct stuff .

All of the Deluxe heaters and the basic heaters I've seen are silver. But the older open door heaters are bronze or a really dark brown hammertone. But my experience is limited I wish I would have painted my 53' a brown shade, it doesn't look good with the silver under a light camal dash. Although it shows off the wonderful attention to detail that the restorer has done.

    Deadzone,

Your pulling left, move that rear sight over a click or two. I'll send Willard over if you can't figure it out. The Brits have those nasty electrified third rail subways, Ouch!

    Thank you !

For that clarification . I guess I shoulda figured out that GM would use different colors to identify different heaters at a glance .

I'm telling you , he's an invaluable parts source... (remember my door latches)

I *do* wonder why he had to change his handle & so on , the guys at that other site maybe beat him up a little bit , no need for that .
