Bovine exhaust last weekend was.

Been setting here looking at other trucks other places day dreaming wondering what I'm going to do about my little 01' Chevy metro, seems both of the smog catalytic convertors have gone out on it and they want about $3200 to fix it seems there is one at/in the exhaust manifold and another down line from that. I did not pay much more than that a few years ago for it. Do not have the money to get it fixed and need the thing for all the many irons I have in the fire. Saturday it was 105 at about 2:30 pm. I left 4th street and Virgil in L.A. the car is not running good it will only get up to 25 miles an hour no matter what. I get on the 101 Freeway and start home, I live some 35 to 40 miles away, I try and put the A/C on and it kills the car, so all the windows go down. Traffic is mostly going about 35/50 in the down town area so no big deal around the 170/101 interchange it picks up and is flowing at normal speeds except me I stay on the 101 because I can not get into the other lanes to get to the 170, so on I go at about 15 going up any incline while others are doing anywhere from 45 up to 80. A while goes by and I’m coming up to the 405 freeway and I just stay to the right and move onto that freeway and people are at normal speeds most of the way to where I getting close to the 118 freeway and more larger inclines and the car is doing at most 12 miles an hour and she is getting really F’’’n hot, I get off at Devonshire Drive in North Hills and take it up to it’s end at Topanga Cyn. , then very slowly up the hill to the 118 freeway. I get on the 118 and uphill at maybe 25mph, going down the grade it would only do 45 at most but home it went. I left L.A. at about 2:45 and got home at 6:25pm. Most of the drive was having traffic enthusiastically directing me and I directing them around me with finger and hand motions.
Also before I left Saturday morning I dropped my teeth in the sink and they cracked somewhat, Buy the time I got to L.A., my upper plate broke down the middle almost all the way. While I was eating dinner Saturday night they completed the break, and I had to super glue them together. I work with the public most all day which means I have to have them teef. The/A Dentist stated today that he wanted $2650.00 per plate upper or lower, even if I find the money for that I will have to eat puréed soups for about 6 weeks, while the tooth fairy makes the new plate/s. What a pile of Bovine exhaust last weekend was.

Are you f#%kin serious? Dammmm dude you should have never got outa bed! But here's a tip for you....If you have access to a welder, grinder with a cutoff wheel and a long steel rod with a point on it you can fix them teefers....No I'm kidding:D Cut the cats off, knock all the honey cone material out of them and weld them back on, the car will run like new and nobody will ever know. As far as the teefers go thats gotta suck just make sure the super glue is dry before you put them back in your mouth....Big Tim

    Tim,
I have no way of getting any of that for exhaust unless I can get a shop to do it for me.
And yes I wish I had of slept in Saturday morning, it was a very spendy day for me. I let the glue dry for 24 hours for a good set, even the tooth fairy was impressed he did not add any other material to them, just said eat very soft foods for a while.

    Sometimes

Life kinda sucks a bit .

County General has a dental program I used when I was really poor , cheap too .

I work over by the new Metro Transit Building , that downtown traffic is a b*tch at times .

As mentioned , gutting the cats will get you back up to speed and when it's time to do the SMOG test , you can have an aftermarket 2nd. cat installed very affordably .

    Dang, Charles!

Every once in a while you post up something that has me stop and say, "Oh, I haven't said 'Thank you for all of your blessings, dear lord! Please forgive me, and THANK YOU!'"

Good writing, too! I could feel my knuckles turning white as I read about your trip home.

I don't know what material your plates are made of, but maybe this is a job for that metal adhesive that has been mentioned on here before? Put a bead over the split, then push a thin strip of smoothed stainless into the bead and let it set. ?

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you win the lotto!

My Vortec sucks also, but I just have to get around Pittsburg, Kansas~ not what you have to endure! Good luck with everything!

Cut the pipe coming out of the end of the converter, get a long screwdriver or pipe and bash the hell out of the honeycomb stuff in there. Save it for the recyclers, as it has precious metals in it. get a friend to weld it back to the pie for you, or go to an auto parts store and get a band clamp for the exhaust repair.

Now, quick- go get your upper denture relined..... When a "top plate" breaks down the center, it's almost always due to it needing to be relined. What happens is the ridge of bone that supports your denture (where your teeth used to be) shrinks with time (age and wear). Then the denture is supported mainly in the center of the hard palate (roof of mouth), and not so much over the ridge. When you bite hard on each side simultaniously it just cracks the denture in half. With out having it relined to fill in under your shrunken ridges it will happen again.

I knew I would eventually be able to give some advice on this board!

Unless there is something major amiss, it shouldn't be a problem.

You lightly hollow out the inside of the denture, mix and pour a semi-liquid acrylic into it, seat it in your mouth, then wait about 5 min. for the acrylic to set. Trim the excess, polish and you're good to go. You will be amazed at how much the fit improves.
I volunteer here at the local free clinic, teaching/working with students from the dental school- it's a cool proceedure because you really get "instant gratification"- makes everybody happy!

    Good luck!

Your dentist will have to do it- it's really not a "do it yourself" job. If you don't get everything just right you could easily ruin your denture.
