This is a question about motorcycle carbs but they are perhaps destined for an AD project. I googled about these carbs but nowhere could I find the angle of operating range for them. In other words, how far off vertical can one run a downdraft one or how far off horizontal a side draft one can be run. I do know that seeing clips of those California "canyon runners" layed over to the sissy bars (if they had them) on both sides of the bike they must run at a fairly acute angle. I figure Nate has experience with the bikes and Ken can find more on a computer in minutes than I can in months so I'm hoping for to get a bit smarter the easy way. Thank you.

Evan: Remember that when a bike is "layed over to the sissy bars" the apparent gravity is along the same vertical axis (tire contact point, axle, frame) as it would be if the bike were straight up at a stop. So the float bowls would be exposed to approximately the same direction of G force. Same thing keeps your wine from spilling in the first class airline seat during a turn the last time you flew to Bora Bora for the weekend.

    What Bill said ! .

Once you find the size carbys you like (I'm going to want to see how big they are , my bet is you'll need three) ' SUDCO ' Inc. in So. Cal. has all the Mikunies
and parts you'll ever need , cheaply .

Well, shucks and darn. Bill, it sure make sense cause if you tie a weight on a string and swing it in a circle the force is always from your hand to the weight whether you swing it vertical or horizontal. Nate, thanks for the parts source, I especially like the "cheaply" notation. I would like to use six Mikuni's that were originally on a bike with 825 cc's displacement, 750cc to 800cc will work. (Idle and low speed NOT a consideration). Each cylinder on a 302 Jimmy is 50 ci ( 6x50='s 300). Fifty cubic inches also equals 825cc's so looking for a carb to feed each cylinder and a zoomie header for each cylinder so it can be tuned as six one cylinder engines. With the pyrometers and O2 sensers on the dyno one equipped like this can be dialed in dead on---same as injectors. The exhaust is on the other side of the head now so was wanting to make carb mount flanges that aimed the centerline of the carb bore up with the head of the intake valve as much as possible. This will be in the 45 degree range and I don't know if Mikuni's will run at this angle in a static state. Guess I'll try to borrow an older carbed bike and slowly lean it over and see what happens.
