what would be a good compression reading for a original 235 ingine be. My readings where 2 cylinders where 130 lbs and 4 @ 140 lbs. does that seem right any input would be appriciated.
160 is about normal. 130-140 a little low but not anything to worry about.your with-in 10# of your lowest cylinder so your okay.do a compression check again but give each cylinder a squirt of oil and see if the cylinders come up then compare the differances to determan if there is a problem ,but i think you maybe okay. Compression Readings As he said , that's O.K. , ideally all cylinders are within 10 # of each other so you're in good shape there . Compression with less than 5 # variaion between cylinders makes for a smoooooth running engne and more tractible power to boot . I hope you remembered to adjust the valves first and to prop the throttle wide open before taking a compression test , yes , it makes a difference and is important . Don't worry about ' low ' compresson until it drops below 100 # and remember : it'll still run just fine with as little as 65 # in the cylinders , it'll just require dead nuts tuning and might be hard to start below 60 * F . As long as it's runing well and no smoke under accelleration , you're good to go ! .
