hello i bought new lock controls , but they seem to wide and dont clear the door cards, seems they only fit one way , any ideas please they are chewing through the cards
There are thin plastic washers called escutcheons that are supposed to be between the handle base and the cardboard door panel to prevent this. Some of the repro tension springs push the panel out so hard the handles bind pretty bad. We put those springs in a vise that is set a quarter inch or so wider than the space they fit into and carefully heat the center coil on each side so it collapses to that setting. It's best to have several springs to play with because each is unique and one seldom hits the right combo the first go-around. Usually don't have a problem with the cardboard or other firm panels but cloth and soft vinyl or leather can be a trial.
