    Oh well ;

    It began making a bad noise under accelleration in 2nd. gear , is still very quiet on coast and in all other gears , in my long ago youth I'd have known exactly what fault this indicates , I'm not sure I want to bother rebuilding it now , maybe I'll just wait until I find a good used one and replace it and the clutch too whilst it's apart .

    I'm betting the cluster gear is worn and sliding back a few thousandths , this offloads it and makes it noisy , in time it'll begin to shriek as the gear dies...

    Any one who cares to share knowledge of this fine old tranny ? . I'd appreciate it a lot .

    TIA ,

    Used SM 465 tranny ?

    Nate good day to you!

    Solid and politely as far as know. Many 1 ton trucks up here had them. You can send Mothertrucker an private message. I understand he keeps used transmission and sells out parts to.Not shore if he owns the SM 465 model ?

    Novac sells a complete resto kit .Buying this or an occasion is always a question of money and time and offcourse what your truck is be operating to work with in daily use.

    Yes , I am sure he'll have something but he's in Az. so I'll prolly just schlepp on down to Pick-A-Part and pop a couple open for a looksee before yanking out , they're *very* affordable there , most get scrapped sad to say :( .

    If I read the Novak site correctly , I can bolt in any year 2WD drive one I find ? .

    As I know there are Jeepers here , I'd expected much more response to this thread...
