    Hello everyone,

I am looking for front brake drums for a 1950 chevrolet 3100 1/2 ton pickup. I would like to find them with hubs on but I only find ones without. I am not sure how to remove the hubs off the drums. my local parts store gave me drums for a "54 and they didn't fit. I thought 50 thru 54 would interchange and so did he. Please advise how to remove the hubs and what yrs will interchange with my 50.

    Thank you Randy

    Welcome home, Randy

This is the place to be if you are working on one of these trucks and not 100% sure of what you're doing.
I'm not sure why you want new hubs. I haven't checked, but I would think our host sells these? You have the half ton, so finding parts shouldn't be a problem. I believe, though, if you want your hubs off to repack the bearings or whatever, all you do is take the dust cap off, pull the cotter key out, take the nut off, then pull the hub off the spindle.
When you put it back on, follow the tightening procedure in your manual or found somewhere in the site search.
    Good luck!
    PS~ WE NEED PICTURES!!!! :D

    hubs

    Thanks Zig

I have to replace my drums and the hub seems to be part of the drum. I am wondering if I can seperate them so all I have to buy is a drum.

If all you need is drums then look into our hosts parts site, maybe call them, if that fails then go to, http://www.truckandcarshop.com/ , and look at page 95 and see if that works for you.
BTW do we have any photos of your ride, ?? & Welcome aboard.

    drums attached to hubs

They are rivited by three rivits
I just today took mine off to inspect the brakes and make adjustments and I am wondering if i could just drill the rivit heads off and take teh drum off without removing the hub.
All this is a precursor to changing over to Disc brakes CPP sells an entire kit with new master cylinder adapter plate wheel cylinders and dics which is my intention to install. I have had the truck for two years now and since the Wife insisted we move into a new house witha bigger garage ( one for her the rest for me she isa smart woman ) I now havea place i can work on the truck for extended periods of time before i had to disassemble and reassemble and drive home from my work place.

ps i think the rivits are 3/16 rivits

You must have impeccable credit to be able to buy now. Not to mention you must have gotten a good deal. I can relate to SWMBO wanting space. Beware...the rest is for her, not you, but, you'll find out sooner or later.

    WELCOME Randy !

Your 1/2 ton pickup comes equipped with " Huck " brakes , used on cars and 1/2 ton trucks from 1937 ~ 1950 , interestingly , they rhyme with ' suck ' and that they do .

You can drill oit the rivets but never , EVER let anyone turn them on a lathe ! .

There should be plenty of good used drums from old Hot Rod projects or passenger cars sitting in fields , I find a lot of good hard parts by taking a shovel along... :p .

New , Chinese drums are being made but I have heard they're not good .
