    Hi guys,

Went to see Roger Waters perform "The Wall" the other night and a guy drives up in the parking lot in a '92 S10 regular cab, long bed pickup. Now I know that doesn't sound like a big thing, but if you want to do a body swap, the kit by AD engineering and this particular S10 is a darn near perfect fit. I approach the guy and it's for sale...cheap. Here's the question: would you take the body from my stock, running and driving '55.1 truck and put it on this S10 chassis or would you get another body to put on the S10 chassis?

    Good question

With things being the way they are economically, I would look for another body. It's a great time to buy, if'n you have the cash. More info on the AD Engineering please.

Good to hear from you again. How are you the boys doing?

Andy, either way you go I have some really comprehensive pictures of doing this procedure, the problem is I don't know how to put an explanation with a picture. Very similar to Russ' "How to restore an AD" that so many have used for guidance. Everything from keeping the stock AD temp sender to using the factory parking brake. Are you going to use the S10 engine? The 4.3 is good because everything that bolts to a V8, bellhousing, clutch, mounts, etc, will bolt to it. Not so with the skinny V6. Don't hesitate to ask because we have a lot of info and tips.

    Decisions

From my point of view, i think it would be a mistake to dismantle a good running truck, doing a swap like this, for me, is for a rough old truck where it's a non runner and needs a whole lotta work just to get it on the road, one where the chassis and running gear have had a hard life but the body is basically sound. Then you could concentrate on the bodywork and make an old looking modern truck, to take apart an up and running piece of history would be a shame, I do have a conflict of interests when I hear guys talking about things like this, a big part of me thinks "well if you want a truck that drives like a modern truck, go buy a modern truck!" but I can also understand the drawbacks of owning an older truck.

For me, when you get in your old truck then you step back in time,
when enjoying the drive was more important than how fast you got there, when you didn't drive up the other cars butt because your brakes ain't that great,
when the gearbox feels like a gearbox and not a playstation joystick,
when a long drive was an adventure and not a logistical exercise,
when you drove something designed by another man, not a programme.
When life was just that little bit slower.

But that's just my 2 bob

I vote for get another body

Andy - i agree totally with Larry. There are lots of projects out there that were started that folks just don;t have the time and/or money to finish and if you look around a bit, you can find good deals. I like the idea of the s10 swap. Plus, you will still have your original truck to keep driving while you work on the 2nd project! Good luck and i am sure you will keep us posted.

    Like brit says~

Don't take your runner and break it up. What he's saying is, go find a G and transfer it to the S10. You'll be thankful you did! ;)

The S10 is to hot rods what the vw was to the kit car.

    Next Project

Allright. Brit sealed it for me with his perfect description pf why we drive the old trucks. It is exactly the way I feel. Turns out that the guy who gave me the Old Navy truck has another cab in his boneyard AND he owes me some money for chiropractic care AND he WANTS me to take that truck out of his yard. May be able to get a running 350 and tranny out of him too.

The guy with the S10 isn't quite ready to give it up right now but will be in a few months.

I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for the input.

    S10 Project AD

    Well ;

Out here in La La Land (home to fruits , nuts & flakes) , S10's are jamming the scrapyards 'cause NO ONE will be caught dead driving them .

    I wonder , why not use a 4X4 s10 Blazer chassis and a 4.3 V-6.....? that'd make is " !! CUSTOM !! " and still a unique rig that you could actually use...

    Not me

I'm not much of a wordsmith but if you want it put more eloquently then check out Cars the pixar movie, I think the way they describe how the freeway (motorway) has changed life on the road then that movie says it all, I know it's a kids film but what the hey! Randy Newman nails it in his song too:D

Having said that, I'm getting old, and maybe it's just me:rolleyes:

    Jus my 2 bob

    I Agree Nate!

This is not a "kid" movie! This is a movie for kids our age, those who know and love the "Mother Road", those of us who would rather go 100 miles out of our way doing 45 mph behind a combine, cruising, watching gauges, not waiting for idiot lights to pop on, pulling in to a diner and ordering a burger that takes 20 minutes to get to the table, fresh and hot!

I just got back from the best road trip I've taken in years on my way to my mother's house for a visit. I ran 112 miles on the interstate and the remaining 622 miles on back roads in Texas, Arkansas, Missouri and Tennessee to get there! What a blast! Americana is shrinking:( but it's still there! You just gotta drive to it!

    Road Trippin'

    Yep ;

And still a few of us geezers who know how to do it right too ;) .

It appears next week I'll wheeze my '76 Jimmy to Az., not sure if SWMBO or Brother Tom is going , it'll be a fun ride no matter what .

Maybe I'll have the gauges going by then ,it's raining again so I hid in a subterainian garage to-day and installed carpet and other little stuff .

I know some folks take that new tunnel across the Continental Divide , I've never even taken the freeway , I always go the old road...
