Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. It's nice being around some fellow gear heads. I went by Classic Parts today (10 minutes from my house) and picked up a repro '53 owner's manual. The original is pretty brittle. I think it's pretty cool that my truck was built right here in Kansas City. Here are a few more photos of the truck. I would like to know the name of the interior paint, or at least the name of the interior color, if someone can tell. Thanks. Tony
I think if you get a Jim Carter Catalog (Independence MO) you will see he sells original interior colors by the quart as well as motor paint. Also original exterior paint. You can get paint swatches if you want the paint mixed with newer paint products. Your truck is awesome and just some serious detailing would make it a stand-out original condition vehicle. good project Tony, Congrats, that looks like an exceptional truck. From what I can see you have a very complete and rather solid 1953 Chevrolet Truck. As others here have stated, get it running and enjoy it (learn) before doing anything. That indented fender is "gold". I am still kicking myself for not buying an original at Hershey 8 years ago. The original sheet metal always fits better - well - as good as it ever was from the factory. We all enjoy seeing a well documented restoration, especially if it is returned to stock. -Terry
Sheen grey metallic is the interior color. Jim Carter has it. It is a satin finish. The engine is grey, also from J.C.
Interior colors Notice I said colors! There are a minimum of 2 colors used for the interior, 3 if you have a heater. The interior is painted in 1 color. I've heard it called "sheen grey metallic" as Russ said. I've also heard it referred to as "Champagne". Both are the same and both can be purchased from our host, CP, and/or Jim Carter. It is a semi-flat, semi-metallic paint. I bought mine from CP and was very impressed with it. The next interior paint is for the steering wheel, steering column and gear shift. It has more gloss and less metallic than the interior paint. It too is available from both CP and JC. Now, for the 3rd color. If you have a heater, it is painted a different color than the interior and the steering wheel/column/shifter. It is a slightly different shade and has a slightly "hammered" finish. Keep on posting pics! They are really cool and we all love to critique! Ken
My bad~ Sorry, Ken~ I caught a glimps of this in your post and thought you were talking about me! Make mine a double~
If you get new stainless glovebox and speaker panels, the sheen grey matches the lighter colored ribs, the steering column matches the brownish ribs. Look in the assembly thread for examples.
