I also had to retain the timing cover from my 216 to install on the 235 block for the front motor mount attachment. They have the same hole pattern. While was at it, I installed a metal timing gear to go with my Howard cam. This brings back memories.
The right carb Thanks Martinius. I'm very interested to know which carb is best suited for my '61 235 engine transplant that I'm going to install in my '53. Recommendations are appreciated. Best, Tony
Engine swap from 216--> 235 CI Hi Tony I ask you to use much attention when oververhauling this engine. A good source in backhand for that is my good friend Patrick Dykes ( Patricks) whom has been dealing with these engines every day for allmost 30 years. Patricks is profesional ad an nice guy to talk to . Tom Langdon Stovebolt is also a fantastic resource but Tom is more a hotrod guy and knows a lot about carb issues and how you should tune your engine. Patrick Dykes will send you the needed information, he can send you an handout on this spesific engine swap issue. If you need any engine parts Patricks has it for an exceptable price. The engine swap and carb choice has to do with your budget ? If you start with changing out something to make it optimal there is allway something else you wanna make even better , nicer and moore efficient right ? The dual intake i am going to buy is a new Offenhauser for the 235 , my new airfilters from Tom Langdon. Reset the ignition after installed the Ignitor . but I `ll keep the single exhaust manifold as it is very well build. The Carter is good , Zenith is also good but moore expencive !
Thanks Martinius. Where do you live in Norway. My mother's family had a farm outside of Strand near Stavangar. Tony

Yesterday my wife whas looking through the Norwegian public records that are recently opened for the period 1910. If you want me to i can ask here to give it a try and check out your mothers family for you? Give me the excact name of your mother (maiden name ) or your mothers famely name , farm name if possable farm location. near Stavanger Strand ? You can send me an private message if you like? Nice talking to you and good luck with your truck project. your kids are gonna love it. Martinius.
What Carby ? Hands down , the Carter YF ~ be sure to get one that is made for your 235 as it was a popular carby and was made & sold as a replacement carby for many years so there's zillions of them out there . Might be worth buying a pair of nicely rebuilt ones . Maybe ~ the last set I set up for Jim's old '39 GMC 100 , he just bought a boxfull of dead Carter 235 YF's @ Hershey and brought them to me , I spread them all out and assembled two out of the best of everything , they worked a treat and still are several years later . If you use YF's or any other carby with adjustable metering rods , try to resist the foolish mistake of leaving them adjusted too high in their wells , they really should drop all the way down @ idle . Racing tricks often don't do well on street machines and this is one of them best left behind . IMO , FWIW , YMMV , flame suit on , etc. , etc. Just binning your old Rochester Series 'B' carby for _one_ Carter YF will wake up your stovebolt more than you can imagine until you try it , dual YF's will make it easy to break things so drive gently please .
Bad news about my block I got some bad news on my block today. Apparently was already 40 over when I brought it it. in order to take out some of the deep rust pits, it would take more than 80 over to do that. i'm not willing to go more than 80 over. that means i'm looking for another 235 bare block again. the remainder of the parts are still good though such as the head, the crank, side cover, rods, etc. I guess I'm back to looking again.
Cheap , / Free , GOOD 235's ! WHOA Nellie ! Go right now to the Task Force pages and begin reading _all_ the older posts about making Hot Rods , write each and every one a letter asking about the takeout 235 ~ they're WORTHLESS and so 5 years later will still be under a tarp waiting for someone , anyone with $150 tops to buy it . It matters not if it was rebuilt or had $ put into it , fan to clutch , a running 235 is only worth $150 , many are thrown away .
EBAY 235 CI block advertizement. Tony I have been dealing with this compagny before and have good experiences.Maybe you can give them a call and agree about a lower price. 1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/58-59-60-61-62-CHEVY-235-INLINE-6-ENGINE-BLOCK-/140483084857?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20b571c239 2. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/50-5...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c17680eca 3. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/42-49-CHEVY-235-INLINE-6-ENGINE-BLOCK-3693374-/140483055918?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20b571512e Some moore ads; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OEM-Chevrolet-235-Engine-Block-3837004-Hydraulic-Lifter-/190463250675?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c587e90f3 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1958-62-Chevy-235-six-cylinder-engine-hot-rod-motor-/170572827847?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27b6eeccc7 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1953...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53e1ef6e9a
My engine rebuilder called an engine scrap yard and found a '61 model 235 bare block. It has a standard bore. he's hot tanking it now and will magnaflux it to make sure it's okay. $125 for the bare block if it mags okay...price doesn't seem too bad...
No , It Isn't ~ You ignored my simple cheap advice ~ the few here who've followed it , ALL got Uber cheap good running 235 engines for free or $150.00 or LESS . Some folks just have to spend $ I guess .
Found one for a hundred then did not need it and gave it to Robert, (Latruca). So they are out there.
Depends on the buyer i`ll gues ? Salvage yard buisness is a very od buisness i know that , but knowning that your block does`nt have any cracks and is in order elsewhere technically is worth that money 125 bucks after my opinion
Very very true, but sometimes the engines need (as Nate has noted time and time again) nothing just put in. Just wish the block I ned for the Massey Harris 33 was only 125 $
