Hi, I own a 1964 Chevrolet C10 and I don't know what size engine my truck has. All i know is that it is a straight 6 cylinder, and I have learned it is either a 230ci or 292ci. I need help. Does anyone know how to tell the difference between the two. I would really appreciate the help. If you can help e-mail me at zanep51@juno.com

    Thanks

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-03 AT 04:35 PM (CST)]Sorry to take so long with the response, Just now saw it.

The 230-250 has its motor mounts across from each other, and the 292 has offset ones.

The engine block ID codes can be found on the passenger side of the engine. The block casting # will have 6 or 7 digits there will be a date code with a letter (month), a # for the day and one # for the year. A 14 9 would probably mean jan 14 1969. Other info is just conveyer # and mold #, not too important.

The bigggest difference between the 292 and 250 is stroke. The 292 has a taller deck to accomidate its longer stroke, and will have taller side covers, if the covers look more square that rectangle you have the 292.
