I recently obtained my grandfathers 1962 Chevy 1/2 ton stepside pickup. The problem is that it hasn't been registered in over 15 years (1987 California) due to my grandfathers passing away. The whole time it has been sitting quietly on a ranch owned by my aunts inlaws. Does anyone have any information on re-registering the truck in CA? Does it have to be put in my grandmothers name fist then signed over to me since it was last registered in my grandfathers name? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can probably get all the information you need by talking
to the DMV or the CHP.
    Good Luck!

I went through this in CA about a dozen years ago. I applied for an abandoned vehicle title (or something similar to that) and had to send a registered letter to the last registered legal owner. When that letter came back unanswered, I took that to the DMV along with a few pages of paperwork and they gave me a title. I think there was a form for the last registerd owner to fill out releasing any claim to the vehicle (if they had answered the letter.)

DMV will give you all the paperwork, the hard part is finding someone at the DMV to guide you through it and explain it.

At any rate, it can be done, but it will require much patience and waiting.

    Good luck

Most definatly, Call DMV. It will go something like this.

A letter from your aunt stating that the truck was last registerd by a deceased and was in the estate, and was given to you by her. (you will need the death certificate) You will owe the registration for the time it was unregistered. ($ouch$)

    Good Luck,

    Dennis
