Members, Anyone know of a site to track down what each of our trucks originally came with? How many were built with the same exact color combinations and options Ect. By tracking a VIN number somewhere I am hoping we can find something out. Anyone with a site suggestion or link? Thanks,
Decoding VIN Try the following link, it may give you some of the information your looking for. http://www.americanclassic.com/paint_test.asp If you're also interested in prior registrations/owners/locations your State's DMV dept. may be able to provide this information. In my state of NC I was able to go online to DMV site and print a form that I filled out with my VIN number along with a fee and they provided me with certified copies of registration for every previous owner of my truck. Good luck
Well--After reading more on how too break down our VIN numbers I find That they really don't tell much past Short, Long, Wide, Step and where it was built and of course sequence.I was hoping it had color combinations and motor type in there somewhere.
The GVW tag on the driver side kick panel will tell you the factory paint code, as well as, the gross vehicle weight, trim & horsepower rating. Did you check your GVW tag?
Found the first Owner WOW - Found that my truck sold new in Patterson MO to a Guy that lived in Poplar Bluff MO. COOOOL
I went to this site and its awsome Go to gmcguy.com and its not just gmc's its Chevys as well. It'll tell you how to read your Vin: the original color original engine size tranny, rearends seats. I mean everything you want to know. Even where it was built and the actual date. I have a 1963 GMC Suburban 4x4 all original. Well almost. Besides the 305E V-6 it had in it. And the rearends were changedout. Cuz when I picked up the truck it had been rolled and rearends were extremely damaged. ( Litterally cracked and Bent )
