Hi all first post seems like a great site lots of good info.I an old chevy truck outback im triing to identify.Serial number from door jamb is 6hp a 2196.From what I have read hp means 1/2 ton truck and hp should be a 50.It has the twist outside door handles and a drivers side cowel vent.Dose not have vent windows it does have lever type shocks.I thought it was a 50 but the 50 has tube style shocks. How many lug nuts would a 1/2 ton truck have?Any help would be appericated or if you need more info.

    Thanks

Hey Ken - Did I get it right?

Someone (DPO) may have changed the shocks, wheels, motor and any number of things that you will discover over time.

Welcome - now photos are required!

    Welcome newbie!

Yeah Larry, my secret decoder ring came up with the same description!:D

In answer to your other question, the original wheels would have had 6 lug nuts.

It's quite possible that, given it was built in January, it could have been built on a '49 chassis which had single action lever shocks.

Thank you all for the welcome and the responses .As for the truck I came up with the same from the searil# however this truck has 8 lug nuts.So I assume the cab has been put on a differant frame.I will try to post pics. Now the decision s-10 frame or the one thats under it.Either way looking forward to doing this project.I have to get a title first.Look forward to using this site alot, thanks again for the info Im sure Ill need a lot more help.

What is the wheelbase? 116" would suggest a 1/2 ton truck whereas 125" would suggest a 3/4 ton (with 8 lug wheels).

Sounds like you've got a typical comglomeration!

    EGADS ! .

    No wonder they junked it ~ that's a Brand 'F' bed ! .

It looks pretty solid , does the engine turn ? . they're hard to kill , look up " make run " and follow it , soon it'll be running again .

Will this be an old stock(ish) or Hot Rod truck ? .

Hey Nate, please look again--I think it is a Dodge bed & rear fenders--don't think F's had the indents on the bed sides--

Fed, look at the indents on the bed sides. Definitely a Dodge, mid to late 50's.

    No,I don't think so
It has odd curves in front of the fenders
Looks more like a dodge bed to me
1954 all the beds were painted black from the factory(for several years)
and (I think) the only year with the curves in front of the fenders
But I must say that the steps in front of the fenders are confusing me
Because the 54 dodge had running boards underneath the doors
At first I would say 55 f$#@#@d also because of the raised bedrail
but the curves were the telltale

    I'am curious what it is

the cab is a younger cab(51 and up) because of the absence of the cowl vent on the left side of the cowl
but the doors do not have any vent windows so they must be pre 51
    It's quit a mix
    but who cares
    the restauration will be fun
Take a look at V8TV on Kelle's project
keep it simple and keep them moving

Looks a lot like this one. It's a '54 Dodge.

All in all, it doesn't matter much, I just wanted to point out that it isn't the correct one if he wants to restore--
    Happy trucking.
