Ok I have been reading all the archives on doing brakes for torson bars, I need some help as what to do. So far I know I need spindles from a 1973 to 1987 chevy truck and they will fit on my stock ball joints right? I will be lowering the truck by turning down the torson bars. as far a brakes I need to upgrade to a disc brake master cylinder right? and how do I tie that in with the master cylinder for the clutch on the stock 3 speed? I know there are kits out there but way out of my budget at this time. Thanks in advance for any help. thanks hotrod
Hello, I am sorry to say to you the whole front end will need to be changed, I just went thru the same thing with my 62...if our trucks had been 63 and later the spindles would bolt right on, the easy way is to get a whole crossmember from a 70s truck with coil springs, I used a 71 chevy and the whole thing bolted right in and I was able to use the power steering as well, I also gat a 12 bolt rear end from the same truck and now have 5 lug all around and I can buy cool wheels now... and the truck drives great now !! I also have a TPI 350 and a 700r4 trans in my 62. Hope this helps you out , Brian
www.mpbrakes.com makes the master cylinder setup you need, but its expensive.your best bet is to buy dropped spindles for a 61.they are as low as 230$
That's some GOOD SCOOP! As far as the clutch, I'm looking for the little clutch master that comes with one of the kits. If I can get that, I can hook up the rest of the stuff. Anyone know where I can get a clutch master cylinder that will bolt in, off to the side of the booster? Rob If there's a way to make a mess of it, I'll find it... Hey all, called MPBRAKES about that clutch master cylinder from this kit: http://www.mpbrakes.com/bm1750.HTM and they said they would split the kit for me. So, we can have the clutch master without the rest of the kit. The reason the kit's so expensive is the dual diaphragm booster. You could probably buy the backing plate as well, so you can mount your 70's model master/booster to it. I think they wanted about $80 for it or something.
