I have a 1966 short box fleet side with a stock 292 inline 6, with the original carb, manual choke.
Does anyone out there know if there is an adapter plate available to change the stock soup bowl carb to a four barrel (or even a two barrel). I am finding this soup bowl works ok but bogs down when you put your foot in it - almost like it floods. The fellow who own the truck before me spent some time fiddling around with jet sizes to no avail. I would like something that makes the transition from small demand to big demand a little smoother.
Ultimately I was thinking about a new carb, intake and headers ($1500 up here in Canada), but I would like to see if I can make this thing purr by spending less money.
Any thought or ideas would be appreciated.

You might try Speedway motors, or jc whitney catologes.

    RE: carb adapter 4 barrel - 292 L6

You might try Clifford Performance. They specialize in inline 6 engines. I'm going to try to follow their blueprint for the 292 when I do my rebuild. It's a little too technical for me right now, but I'm learning. I'm just glad to hear that somebody else is keeping their 292.

    RE: 4 bbl adapter for 66 292 L6

Thanks for the ideas. There has been some really good discussion of my question at Inliners International Bulleting Board (http://www.inliners.org./ubb/Forum1/HTML/001092.html) and it seems without a new intake the 4 bbl might be worse than what I've got due to lack of air. CLifford makes an adaptor for a 2 bbl and it has been suggested that the later model "monojet" carb where great for this application.
I will be hunting for a later carb and see if that works.
    Thanks for your ideas.
