whant more top end out of 1/2 ton drivetrain

    whant more top end out of 1948 1/2 ton.if i step up the rearend my 3 speed is to high in first gear.could i use t5 trans 5 speed and still use my torquetub rearend.or could i use a newer gm 1/2 ton drivetrain use whith adapter kit from classicparts.

    Dan,

    Go up to the search button and check out Rear end swaps and gearing, transmission swaps. There are lots of options, if its just more top end then changing the rear pinion gear in your original rearend. Changing rear ends means losing originality and going to open shaft. T5 is nice but needs open shaft rear end but no need to change rear gears. They all have pro's and con's. Your budget could mean a lot as some of theses options are expensive.
