i just wanted to share my progress with everyone. the first pic is what i had to work with. the second is the new panel that i made. the third is with the panel fit in place. once i get this in place i can weld the door pillar back in place then the inner, inner to outer, and the outer cowl back in place. Gentlemen : THIS is the fine art of restoration ~ the next time you think I know anything , remember the work you see here , I am humbled by this excellent job .
so here is the panel all welded in, just needs the top flange. the real kicker is everything i make has to be 16 ga. because i have about 20 3x6 sheets. it is a little tough to manipulate at first but a good set of body hammers, a lead bag and my favorite tool ever; a beverly shear make it a lot more manigable. oh yeah nate, im not sure if you're joking or not but thanks for the compliment. i left the driver side intact so i would have something to go off just like drum brakes. _NOT_ Kidding ! I've been working on old junk since it was , well just old junk and sadly I never learned body work nor welding . In my other trade (VW Shop in the glory years) I did many body - off restorations and was a judge for a long time so yes , I know EXACTLY what you're doing and how difficult it is . Keep up the good work ! .
i always loved my old vw's i had a 66 with the steel moon roof and a 63. i wish i never had sold them. they were by far the best CARS i ever had not to mention my first.
OT : Old VW's So then ; Come buy my '63 DeLuXe Sedan or my '60 Sunroof Sedan or my '67 DeLuxe Sedan , or my '68 Typ II panel truck.... I'm getting rid of all my old VW's .
So Nate, if you get rid of all of your old VW's, does this mean you'll be changing your handle from vwnate1 to gmcnate1?
Hay nate need to put those VW on.....Thesamba.com.......all VW site, maybe you all ready know about it. I have been working on VW 20 years out of So CAL. good luck
Samba Not only is that site rife with bugs & v*rus' , it's mostly populated by jerkoffs . I need to find someone who knows VW's not just likes pretty pictures . Maybe I'll drag 'em one at a time , out to Po-Mona .
Hay nate heres some pretty pics for you....just a few cars from the club...hay Iam on the samba all the time, does that make me a jerkoff?...I have never had truoble with that site, you computer must suck.next pamona is april 17, Ill be there.Ill look for you. also it sounds like you deal with a lot of junk,so it mite not be a good idea to drag them to pomona....people there dont buy juckers.
Sweet rides ! Those look beautiful . I gave up on The Samba years ago , maybe it's different / better now . I'm a stock kinda guy , my VW's are all unrestored . I guess you go to a different Po-Mona than the rest of the world as it's mostly junk , undrivable junk at that . I've sold many a car there and seen worthless trash sell for absurdly high $ . Maybe I'm just a grumpy old man .
