Been done many times by both shops and hobbyists. Do a search on this forum, the Stovebolt forum, and the Inliners forum. A couple of tips is to find which T5 has the forward located shifter so seat clearence won't be a problem. If you have buckets with a space between them then this is not a factor. The T5 came in several different overdrive ratios with one having only about an 18% OD. The input shaft has to be shortened just a bit and the clutch splines cut back about the same amount. The clutch plate needs changed out but the pressure plate and TO bearing are retained. I personally don't care for the T5 because it is a weak tranny and many of our projects have V8's and big tires which is a death sentence for the T5. It is fine for a stock 216/235/261. We usually use the Borgwarner 3sp OD trans which bolts right in place of the old 3sp and is still shifted with the factory 3sp shifter. It actually has six forward speeds if you got the cajones to wind the six banger to 28mph in first gear to reach 1st over. An advantage of the T5 is it's all mechanical---no electric governor or solenoid.

    Go Fast -BUT-

Mind the RPM's on InLine 6 Bangers ! . they're long stroke engines and don't like to be run above 3,200 RPM's except breifly when you're accellerating...

Ignore this advice at your peril ~ no whining later when a connecting rod snaps at the wrist pin and destroys your otherwise pristine cylinder block .
