i am needing glass for my 54 5 window truck, need all the glass and not sure what to do with steering box. it was tore upart when i got truck, i put bak together but only turns a little bit. thought bout power steering, if i can find a cheap conversion kit. any help would be good thanks
I've scouted the yards and got a mid-eighties 4wd Toyota power box for $150 but I think the price is rising on them. It is the cleanest and easiest conversion by far. A search on this site, Stovebolt, and Inliners will provide much info. I think our host offers a Toyota conversion but not positive.
ok thanks for the help guys, i was just checking to see if there any used glass or boxes. ill try to get some pics on here soon. i just started on it and have to order some parts but it should be a fun rat rod when im done
Used Glass ...Is a PIA and dangerous to boot . If you take out and re - install the windshield , be sure to seal up the edges with silocone before you put the rubber grommet on else it'll de - laminate . I've had good reults in reducing glare from pitting & scratches by polishing with RAIN-X , I wonder of maybe you can use one of those headlight lens cleaning kits to reduce pitting & scratches on old glass ? . I can't see why not . Mind the thickness if you have your windshields re placed , these trucks use a thinner glass and the common thickness doesn't fit in the rubber well , leaks and so on . always make sure they understand you want your old pattern glass returned ! .
Tinted Glass Be sure you get tinted glass. You may decide to put in a lot of time and money into it. Or you may decide to sell it after SWMBO decides it has to go. Clear glass turns some people off who may want to buy it.
