Will a wire wheel get parts clean enough to powder coat?

    No

No, unfortunately not, you will be able to powder coat them but it won't last long, needs chemical or blasting for a long lasting coating

All the powder coaters around here have there own blasting facility and the quoted price includes the prep. A frame, coil and leaf springs, A-frame and suspension parts, rear axle housing, removable crossmembers, driveshaft, and stuff like mount brackets and other small parts run a total of around $300---less than painting supplies run if you use PPG or DuPont paint.

I was quoted 900 dollars for all the brackets and the little parts. The same company did my frame for $300. They said the little parts take too much time to blast.

    Those Little Parts

    They're always nut busters .

Consider using elecrolytic de - rusting , this takes time and effort but really cleans up steel .

For that kind of $$$ buy yourself a blast cabinet and do it yourself. You will always find another little thingy that could use a little blast of lovin.

Here's what Nate is speaking of. Dirt cheap and works great. Six dollar plastic tub from Dollar General, two bucks worth of WASHING (not baking) soda, and three or so gallons of water. Hook the battery charger up with the positive to the sacrificial plate--in this case a pressure plate and the negative to the part to be cleaned. Adjust the water/soda mix till the charger reads half scale on a medium setting. It should foam like the dickens but doesn't give off any noxiuos fumes. Cleans just as good down inside threaded holes or tubes as it does on the outside. Never wears out but does get cruddy. It's so non toxic that you can poor it on your garden if the soils acidic or needs iron. Just cleaned a set of really frozen seat adjuster rails and they now look new and slide slick as butter. Took a day and one night.
