I'm putting a 235 in my '52. I'm going to use the 216 water pump with an adapter plate to keep the fan centered on the radiator. My question is, does it matter which fan I use? The small older style from the 216 or the larger one from the 235? The center hole & the mounting holes are the same on both fans. Thanx. Terry
I would ask a similar question, would one be able to put a larger fan from a 235 onto a 216? Truck will be used as mainly a parade rig, and in a hot climate (texas summer) Potential issues?
Overheating FWIW - My old 235 overheated in a parade in the NW last summer. Short shaft pump without the adapter to raise the fan. As soon as I pulled out of the parade and got some air moving through the radiator at 35 mph the temp guage moved away from being pegged and things cooled down. I would be real concerned about overheating in a parade down South...
Fans & Cooling If Evan counters anything I say about this , follow his lead , O.K. ? . Best bet is an electric pusher fan with relay and sender , wired live so it'll run regardless of engine running or not . (some ignorant folks think pusher fans are inefficient , they failed 7th grade physics) Next is the biggest flex fan you can squeeze in there , of course you want to shim the fan as close to the radiator as you can , when my 235 was still running a mechanical fan it had 1/4" clearance and could idle in 125° F heat all day long , no overheating . FWIW ~ I hate flex fans on older rigs just because the look funny . yes I know they work great and save power , last forever and can be had for $3 , I just hate how they look under the hood . Parade duty is the very worst rough service there is . ~ I'd go straight to the biggest pusher E-Fan you can get in there .
