That was a surprizing run for that old machine. Been working on my old 41 9N that is smoking and running real bad and found that while surfing for answers to my problems with it.
That is super neat. We have to check temp, humidity, adjust clutch slippage to match track surface, timing, fuel flow, blower boost, and get the right heat into the engine to make a good pull. They just hook up and go. I wonder what a pull costs them fuel wise? I'll bet not much compared to the 24 gallons it takes to go 300 feet (that's 422 gallons per mile). Progress has made us go backward.
Very cool Charles! I followed some of the other links and checked out some of the steam trains. I remember them from when I was a youngster and never tire of seeing them in action.
Gas milage Evan, correct driving ie gentle acceleration, easy braking and using only 1 engine could help your milage
