I just gave the 235 a tune up, cap rotor points condenser plugs wires and timing. It still has a bad hesitation when I give it the gas. There isn't an acellerator pump on the carb, the vaccume advance works fine. ???? Any ideas

Fix the acellerator pump..... ALL Chevrolet I-6 engines fitted to Motor Vehicles had acellerator pumps .

You didn't mention doing a valve adjustment , this is critical , the very first step in any tune up .

Did you set the timing to ball on pointer @ 600 RPM ? .

Is there any vacuum signal to the dizzy @ idle ? .

These engines were plauged by off idle flat spots from new , that's part of why GM re designed the Rochetser leaks a lot 'B' Series carby at least once every model year....
