I've got a 62 chevy C-10 that I recently bought. I know I can change the suspension to a 70's model pretty easily, but would like to hear from some of you who have already done this, on how the steering linkage and everything else is to hook up before I get under the truck and run into something I need and don't have.

    Thanks

I completed the suspension task about 3 years ago. I took a 75 1/2 ton chevy complete crossmember. The last two bolts( towards the cab) will line up the rest you have to drill out. You will need to make spacers to fit between the frame rails and the crossmember. Now, motor mounts will have to be made, in my case I took a pair from a 70 chevy and cut out approximately an 1 inch above the motor location. Then welded the top and bottom back together. Best to do this with the engine on a hoist so you can set it in the frame to see how much you need to take out of the motor mount. Measure how the drag link sits from the crossmember on the donor truck. I cut off the stock upper shock mount and reused it. I need to run now. Send me and email and I will tell you anything you want to know.

    Here's an interesting question...

I was checking out my neighbor's Z71 the other day. I think it's a 2000, not sure. Anyway, it's a shortbed 4WD and it has some pretty interesting features. In particular, six lug wheels, torsion bar front suspension and a factory four-point rear suspension with coils and sway bars.

My question is, if I box the rails on my 62, can I use the Z71 suspension components on my 62? How about just the braking system - minus any ABS components? Or just the A-arms and cross member?

I'm going to measure it all out and see if any of it might work.

How awesome would that be!? Totally updated suspension components...

BL....is that spacers as in "washers" or is that spacers as in "Shims?I ask because I have a 75 Chevy that I intend to use the front end of in my 60 Model Chevy. I have read where two holes need to be drilled for it to work, but I have not heard about only two holes line up , the rest need to be drilled. If thats the case then I am way off on whats involved to make the swap. When I attempt the swap will it be obvious where the spacers need to be and what size spacers I will need to use?
