A friend of me have the same truck (1946, 1/2 ton) and is thinking about the idea to swap to a S10 frame with V8, automatic tranny and and and. God save the original condition - it's my opinion but every boy has other ideas. Before everyone ask - my truck is and will be ever in original condition Is it possible and which year from S10 is possible. Volker

s 10 swap Volker Yes it is possible.My truck is on a '88 S 10 chassis with a small block chevy and a700r4 trans.You must use a regular cab long bed 2 wheel drive chassis. I believe any year will work.I used a kit from A-D Engineering. I know that Evan has used their kit also.Their web site is www. a-dengineering.com.Everything in the kit worked perfect.Well worth the cost in my opinion.Hope this helps.
Sorry Volker I missed the year ['46] I was thinking AD. Do know that a S 10 chassis is easy to shorten. The back half fits inside of the front,a little grinding and slide ahead and reweld.Sorry again that I didn't read close enough.
decision OK, after a lot of beer he decide to hold the original condition But one or more upgrades are important. He would like to go to a open drive shaft and use a new rear end. Which rear axle fits in a 1946 truck without cutting?
Measure the rear either from mounting flange to mounting flange or backing plate to backing plate and then go to this site to see what open rear has the same dimensions. Http://www.teufert.net/other/rear end dimensions.htm To keep 6 lugs one might check out the 4wd S10 or the Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon. I think the S10 would be close because it's a bit too narrow for an AD without spacers.
