My grandpa bought a 1953 Chevy Pickup in need of repairs and he was wondering if it would be possible for him to use parts off of a '53 GMC Pickup on the truck.

The main difference is the front sheetmetal and core support, the dash board and the engine.

Well, they do look similar, but the Gentle Man's Chevy just has more style and pizazz...drive one of them and you tend to Get More Chicks...

But, yea...these guys are right...the vast majority of the parts are interchangeable. Sounds to me like a heckova project for you and your Grandpa to tackle together...you might both learn some new things, and you can't beat it for quality time together. During some of them more challenging tasks, you might even learn some new descriptive adjectives from him...

As you prolly know , these fine old trucks were designed and built with farmers in mind ~ GMC Division cleverly figured out that by adding a buck toothed grille , corn farmers would choose their trucks over the wildly prettier CHEVROLETS as their buck teef can pick the errant corn stalks right through the picket fence...... :D

Or , maybe it's just the fact that GMC's have a vastly superior full pressure lubrication 7 main bearing high speed engine that us BOWTIE Guys simply envy  .

Yes , many parts are interchangable .

If one would notice, This truck above has had some dental work by the other owners, that is why it looks great doing all that Work.

Yes Wolf, Your 'Jimmy" can hold a good load of manure! No doubt that rubbing the good wet stuff into your paint did probably improve on the "Patina". But to answer the man's question, the GMC's main difference was a positive ground system. So electrical parts would be suspect. "Buck Tuff Jimmy" I like that!!

I may be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure my 52 GMC was a negative ground...my mind certainly ain't what it used to be, but I don't think it was positive...

Originally, they were positive ground. So if your's is negative ground, someone must have swapped it.

    Piece 'O Cake !

You alls will notice how hard they tried to hide this Buck Teef Jimmy by painting it CHEVROLET BLUE..........

When all is said and done , the GMC will have finished the job sooner and beat the wheezing babbit pounder Chevrolet to the Burger Barn , that's why us Bowtie Guys have to stop along the way and pick up the pretty Women....... .

Too funny Nate! As you can see though there is that Chevy Orange fading through too;)

My GMC was positive ground when I got it. It now is neg ground, i thought it would be easier so i changed it. Works great so far. PS I still have the good ol' vacuum wipers

Aren't you supposed to change vacuum wipers to pressure wipers when you change from positive to negative ground??
