    Hey!

Getting ready to replace the window channel weatherstrip on my doors. This is something I haven't done and I'm sure there's a few tricks that will make it easier. Any helpful hints would be appreciated. Phrases like 'perfect fit' and 'exact replacement' usually mean trouble.

    Thanks!

I'll assume you are replacing the felt inside the channel and the wiskers, or sweepers, inside the window opening.

Actually it's a pretty easy job. You will need some 3-M Weatherstrip Adhesive and a couple of clamps.

The window channel kits sold here slide right in. Test fit once to see exactly how it fits in. Doing on a warm day helps make it a bit more plyable but it's not a necessity. After you see how it all goes in, remove it and add a few daps of adhesive on the back of the felt. Insert into the channel and start working your way around, adding a dab or two of adhesive as you go around.

The wiskers have little tabs that poke through openings in the window jam. These usually are not enough to hold them in place when the window is rolled all the way up. Answer? Once again, a dab or two of the adhesive on the back and then clamp them in place till it dries. Then move on to the next one till they are all done.

With the adhesive use small dabs. The stuff works good and will create a mess if you use too much.
