I just bought a one owner 1966 C-10 swb. The 3-speed has trouble going into 1st gear. It grinds and gravels no matter how you tickle it. I was told it needed a shifter collar, but have not been able to locate even a used one. Any leads on the collar part or maybe ideas on other components to check? Also, the truck bucks while cruising at any speed. I've tuned it and have had the carb checked. Any comments appreciated. [updated:LAST EDITED ON Sep-08-03 AT 04:47 PM (CST)]I saw two things that leads me to believe it's your clutch that is at the source of the problems. Grinds going into gear + Bucks while cruising at any speed. But, I digress. I'll assume that this is a column shift three speed, and the collar you are talking about is on the column. It would be a safe assumption that if the collar is worn enough to cause the shifting problem, that other stuff in the column is just as worn. Look into a rebuilt column or have your's rebuilt. Have you checked the linkage grommets yet? They are located on the end of the column inside the engine bay. The shift lever tabs on the column contain these grommets( made of rubber and a metal sleeve) that keep the linckage tight. There are two more located on the transmission. Check these to make sure that it's just not slop in the linkage. You could also see if the linkage needs adjusting. Dennis
