    I have a C3100 1955 1st series and recently took out the gas tank with lots of inside rust and pin holes. I thought about replacing it but I really dont like the idea of having the tank in the Cab.I have seen some other conversions on different vehicles but not on this type of truck. Has anyone got pictures/options on what they did to reliably convert the tank?

    thanks for the help..

    Underbed Fuel Tank

    IIRC ;

    The Econoline vans have a nifty tank that fits right between the frame rails and actually has a filler you can use....

    This may not be the cheepest but on my '48 they come with side mount between the frame rail tank.The aftermkt. now has them for around $400. straps, fill hose, sender unit,all look original and you fill from the same side, just thru the bed not the cab. I think our host carries them also.
    Good luck

    This is a 48 likes Mike's that shows the factory mounting. The rear has been changed to an open driveshaft so it is very much like a 55 1st series. For $50 worth of material and common home tools you can make your own tank. The only outsource would be the welding. It's just a metal box with a fuel outlet, filler tube, and a sending unit hole. I think I posted build pics on the AD Forum.

    No I didn't.Just used the stock pump that came with the crate motor through a 3/8 fuel line and a fram fuel filter with no problems.
    Hope this helps.

    If you're worried about the danger of the tank in the cab, don't. If the cab is crushed enough to rupture the tank, why would you care? You're probably already a goner. I grew up with tanks like this in the 60's and early 70's. There no big deal and you'd be keeping with original.

    I wasn't worried about that. I wanted the extra weight over the rear wheels.Getting the gas tank out of the cab made room for the center console and storage behind the seats.
