hi guys i have a problem i've had for several years... story started several years ago when o purchased a 70 model 4-bolt main truck motor to rebuild. cost to do so turned out to be around $2400.00 total rebuild with alum intake and edlebrook carb and converted to electronic distributor. i installed this motor in a 78 chevy capirce classic, for the lack of a good truck to put it in but shortly after getting the motor running and driving daily, one day it wouldn't start, wouldn't hit a lick, well i pulled dist cap and check things out there it was getting fuel but wouldn't fire, well i didn't see anything i thought would cause a problem so put it back together and it fired right off. wasn't long it did it again. i remembered at that time once seeing someone take a screw driver and tapping the top of the dist with the handle, not hard but several times, well i tryed it and it fired right off. GO FIGURE?? well i've been doing that now for several years to get it started. it doesn't do it all the time and some times it does it everytime.. i have moved the motor from the capice to an 87 chev pick-up and still have the same problem. i have replaced everything at least twice and the complete distributor once. still got the problem... does anyone have any thoughts?? sure would like to find and fix.. cuz you know if your at church and its raining you can bet thats when you'll have to pop the hold and bet on the dist. HELP!!!!! PLEASE!!! allen
Is this a GM HEI distributor? Did you check / replace the connector or terminal pins? When you replaced the distributor did you replace the cap and coil as well? After you replaced the distributor was it OK for awhile? Just some things I would be looking at if I were diagnosing. Doug
