I have researched the threads and found some conflicting information regarding the removal of my spindles. First, the axle/spindle I have is on a home built utility trailer and when I purchased wheel bearings some years ago it appeared to be a late 30's or early 40's front axle and leaf springs. I spun a bearing and toasted the right spindle which I an trying to remove. From my research on this site I have some questions: 1. Is there a perpendicular pin holding the king pin in? 2. Does the king pin come out up or down? 3. Or does it matter which way I try to drive it out? 4. liquid wrench? torch? 3 pound hammer? 8 pound hammer? all of the above? thanks
Here's a link to a shop manual for '48-'51 chevy trucks. Section 3 explains a lot about how the front end works on these trucks and tells how to remove and replace kingpins. It even has pictures! Hope this helps. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1948_51truck/51ctsm0301.htm Ken
If it's on a trailer wouldn't the builder have welded the spindles in to a fixed position so that they wouldn't move ?
