Well, in my experience there is no such thing as a dumb question - maybe only the one that doesn't get asked. A # bolt engine refers to the number of main bearing cap bolts the main bearing cap is equipped with. Two bolts hold on the main bearing cap to the block on a 2 bolt engine and 4 bolts hold the cap on a 4 bolt engine. The 4 bolt is then able to withstand more force / strain than a 2 bolt. Also, this may vary on the front and rear main caps as a 4 bolt engine may have 2 bolt front and rear main caps. Hope that helps, Doug
