That is a great photo of you two hard at it. Keep that shot and compare it when he is sitting there ready to leave in it and you are sitting in the same seats.

Hey, That's a great picture. He looks quite happy with his position. Don't be surprised when someday he claims that truck as his own.

Bilbo, I think he already has!!!! Actually I would be very happy if when the time comes he wants it to be his. I imagine by that time I will have a panel truck sitting in the garage next to this one for me. At least I hope so!!!

    Great picture!

Awesome Jason! Before you know it, he'll be of driving age and sitting there asking "C'mon dad, where's the keys?"

And that is why I have decided to forget about the 350 swap and go with one of the oldie but goodie inliners. I have a question. Will a 235 fit in my G without moving the front crossmember? I have been looking around and found a real nice 235 with transmission nearby. I have also been talking with our Midnight Rose man about his retired 228 so I have options. Any suggestions?

    My Suggestion

Slap in the 235 and grab the 228 , after the truck is running you can overhaul toe 228 and teach him ever so much more......

Seriously good life lessons to be learned working on an old engine beside your father .

Lucky for us you are such an early riser. I do value your opinion so will be hopefully picking up the 235 on Friday. Anything i should look out for before i drop the money? I have read over a lot of the posts about buying engines so feel pretty comfortable. He did not have compression numbers but otherwise sounds good. I will post some pictures when it happens. Any suggestion on max i should spend on motor and trans?

    235 Value

It's really all over the map but they're extremely hard to sell so the engine complete , fan to clutch & including ALL accessories , gennie , starter , dizzy and so on , should be included , for no more than $150.00 unless it's been rebuilt .

If he's asking for silly $ ($500 etc.) just go looking as there's a really nice one near you that you don't know about , that someone desperately wants rid of , cheaply .

The good thing is : unless it's stuck it'll run no matter how poor shape it is , typical late 1930's GM design here , simple , robust and super easy to fix .

Just scrub it hospital clean and remove all the accessories and paint it gray like it ought , paint the accessories gloss black and slap it in ~ it'll look terrific and run sweetly for years to come .

Expect to do a major tune up on it .

BE CAREFUL ! these are HEAVY beasts so if it begins to fall , GET OUT OF THE WAY as it'll cripple you before you can blink .

Very cool picture. That is just awesome. I can't wait for my son to get old enough to ride with me in the truck. Unfortunately he is growing so fast already!! Time sure does have a tendency to speed up. Just love every min of it!!!
