anybody here have solid advice on starting up a fresh 235 (55') concerning valve adjustment? all the info i find is for doing the adjustment after engine warms up.what i seem to recall is finding TDC and starting with #1 adjusting each pair of valves in firing order rolling engine over by hand so rotor is pointing at next cylinder. ready to hear some feedback thanks!
I'm not sure about a cold adjustment But this should work, and then you can check it and let us know how much of an adjustment you made once things were hot. http://www.speedprint.com/deves50/valveadjust.php
Yes, his name is vwnate1! Nate is your best bet to give you advise on that. Let me ask a couple of questions first. What do you mean by "fresh"? Are you talking about a freshly rebuilt engine that you plan to start up initially? Again, Nate is your "go to" man! Next, what kind of lifters do you have? Solid or hydraulic? Hydraulic ones will need to be pre-loaded. Again, Nate! He has more advise than Carter's got pills! Believe everything he says! Ken
Valve adjustment 235 CID engine I have the same 1955 235 engine and used Deves web site to adjust the valves and it worked great on a cold engine. Beware of that the oilline is open and that it brings anough oil to the top when running your engine. Look at your pressure gauge all the time when starting up the engine. Your engine has hydr. lifters and does `nt have to be re-adjusted if the first adjustment turns out to be right the first time. Good luck Martinius.
Wecome dude ! Yep , just follow the valve adjust procedure indicated and get it running , check for oil pressure & leaks , set the idle speed and ignition timing , get it good and hot , shut it down and whilst hot check and re adjust the valves as necessary , button it up and go for a test drive . Expect to re - check and re - adjust the valves a few times more before they're fully bedded in and don't need regular looking after . I love the '55 Task Force trucks! . BTW : the good folks here know everything about your fine old GM truck so don't hesitate to ask questions as THERE ARE NO ' STUPID ' QUESTIONS ! .
