Not much in the way of search results sooooooooo. Anybody here lowered their truck and kept the stock frame and straight axle? Results? how low were you able to get it? Have a 54 3100 I recently got and and want it lowered, not ground scraping but just a good stance. If not looks like it will be Gasser time.
Re:Lowering About the only way you can lower it and keep everything stock would be through the use of lowering blocks. They should be available at most any FLAPS store.
Right, but has anyone modified or changed out the spring hangers on the front and rear springs in addition to blocks or instead of? How low is safe on the front springs with out running into steering problems or should I say creating?
There's a couple of ways to do the front, you can get a dropped axle in a 3 or 4 inch drop. Or else Posies or Eaton Springs sell dropped springs. Posies sell a 3 inch drop and Eaton sells 1,2, or 3" drop. Same for the rear and if your using a late model rear end you can get the springs with the centering bolt relocated so the wheels sit centered in the wheel openings. I have also read that you can replace the rear spring hanger with ones from the front . http://droppedaxles.com/CHEVY_AXLES.html http://www.eatonsprings.com/ http://www.posiesrodsandcustoms.com/
I'm using 2" dropped Eaton springs. In a few years, I might actually have the fenders back on the front to see what it will look like. If it's not just right, I could downsize the height of the front tires just a tad... Hopefully, that won't be needed.
We lowered ours 4" using this spring kit & shorter shackles. Rides nice & smooth , bolt in application & stance looks good. http://www.performanceonline.com/19...ENSION-KIT-MULTI-LEAF-SPRINGS-FRONT-and-REAR/

Here is a shot of Roberts truck at the Brothers Show waiting for the gates to open. And a shot of mine seating across from Robert in line waiting for the gate to open, mine is a 1ton and has had s few leaves removed to maake it sit lower.
remove leaves i've done for an experiment the same. took out 2 leaves from rear -it's OK but in front 2 leaves the truck was too smooth in curves and jump up and down if i drove througt rough streets. Is it normally or have i a problem with my shocks?
