    hey all,

Somebody mentioned this to me when i was planning out my build and i don't really plan on using it, but thought it was just quirky enough to mention on the boards.

Has anyone ever encountered or thought of using this plastic lumber for a truck bed application? what's it look like, i imagine it would be pretty fake looking, but it wouldn't really have all the high maintenance of wood.

    So comment away?

That's a new idea! Don't mention it to purists though..Iv'e used this type of lumber building decks and porchs. Weathers well, does stain though and can be cracked if fastening screws are over torqued. The type material I used was called "Timbertech"..tongue and groove, great deck but I don't think it would take rough handling if you use your truck as a truck. My two cents worth..:)

Might be a market if someone could make the plastic lumber look like varnished wood. Can the edges of the plastic lumber be routed for the strips?

The type of lumber that I refered to has a tongue on one edge and grove on the other. There are other manufacturers of this type product mostly straight lumber sizes with 2x6 being the most common.
Can it be routed? might be worth a try. Keep us posted.

I have sold this type of aftermarket decking and there are three
    type's available that I know of,Timbertech,Trex deck,and Choice deck
made of recycled plastic's,look nice on a deck and will almost last
forever but in my own opinion don't think they would make a good truck bed,the Trex and choice deck could be routered but the
Timbertech is an extruded piece that would have to be cut down
there for weakening it even further.the price of this stuff tend's
to run around $35 to $40 for a 2x6x16'pc.The choice deck I believe
can be purchased in 1"thick piece and has a stamped wood grain look
to it on top of the board but again I think would look very fake looking in my own honest opinion and think real wood done right
looks the best.If you are looking for something for every day use
and want something rugged, I think I would look into some type of metal diamond plate.FWIW,Allen
