I'm getting ready to paint the white stripe down the sides of my truck, and I'm wondering how far the stripe "wraps" around the cab corner? Is the stripe suppose to be painted only as long as the moulding pieces are on the cab corner? I can't find a close-up on the Internet, and my truck was all white before. It's going to look pretty much like this 66 I found on the net. Thanks, Tom
Hey Tom. Check out this link for the paint breaks, you speak of: http://www.flickr.com/photos/4-5-6chevytrucks/sets/72157624828845390/ Here is another link, showing the paint breaks: http://www.flickr.com/photos/4-5-6chevytrucks/sets/72157611689894246/
Tony, thanks for the links. Wish I'd seen them before I painted my stripe yesterday, but not sure I would have changed much. My stripe doesn't wrap around the cab back like the pickup in your link. Mine is only as long as the short pieces of moulding on the cab corner. I already had my box mounted though, and would not liked the idea of unbolting it again, lol. Not sure how it will look, but I'm going to try to get the moulding on the truck tomorrow.
White Stripes & moulding Now that the stripes are painted, I'm tackling the moulding. Had issues with the door moulding having enough clearance so the door would open without crushing the moulding. Had to adjust the front clip and fender some. One side done, and the other tomorrow. The new moulding seems nice, but am not happy with the moulding clips for the narrow pieces. That moulding is sloppy loose, as the clips don't hold the moulding tight against the body. Don't think I have enough "old" clips to use instead. Anyone else have this problem? If so, what did you do to cure it? Thanks to everyone for the help in getting this truck almost finished!
The friction clips are not the optimal clip used for securing the small or large molding. the sping clips with the threaded stud & speed nut, will ensure the moulding is held tight to the body. Do you have any of them?
Molding clips Tony, The trim on the front fender came with the clips with the studs and speednuts. All the rest of the molding came with the wire spring / tension clips. Do they make the stud type clips for the narrow trim?
Yes they do. I believe I got a few hundred of them from NAPA. Some of the full-service automotive paint supply houses will also have them. That style comes in many sizes and in jobber quantity.
