I posted a few months back about my truck smoking , sure sure its 60 years old its and it is legal, but it should know better. It is not only doing it when i pull away from a stop but it is now doing it all the way down the road . I want to find a replacement engine for it and doa rebuild over the winter paint it up and put stickers on it make it look pretty then swap out in the spring. I know nate will say there are plenty of engines out there to be had by guys swapping the 235 out for v8s so I guess im asking , Is there anyone out there that has one sitting about? Bill
-or- Do what GM intended to be done : yank the clinder head & drop the oil pan , replace all six pistons and rebuild the cylinder head , button 'er back up and drive happy for another 30 years.... To find good , cheap 235's , go to every single Task Force forum you can find and begin writing all those guys who went to V-ates , especially the five year ago ones as the old takeout 235 will still be sitting under a tarp in the back of the garge .
I've got a freshly rebuilt 235, 1962 model. Done by a real Nascar pro. Has a 54' Corvette cam....which may or may not mean anything other then it was NOS. Also an unused set of fenton exhausts...new. Can't give it away but I'm listening....depends on what all you want with it.
rebuild Id like to do the rebuild myself just for the sake of saying I done did it. I know i can do it in the truck as GM intended it but i figure if i do it i want ot paint it up alll perty like and put stickers on it like it came out of the factory that way Bill
Well Bill ; I sure wish old ' Grunty ' was here to guide you , I dunno what Used Car Dealership he worked for before I hired him as he was a kid , younger than I but WOW ! he was a demon with the Foo-Foo cans in situ , he'd use tape , glossy paper & cardboard to mask off then shoot the engine of every single used car we had on the lot ~ it was simply AMAZING how good he made them look . You can do this too ~ clean it really well before teardown then spray it in place , use a single edge razor to clean up the sealing surfaces before buttoning it back up , add some new decals and it'll look terrific & run As - new again too .
craigslist Found this http://newyork.craigslist.org/stn/pts/2640333347.html on craigslist not sure what they want for it I do notice it does nto have the oil line going into the head like mine does? Bill
Used 235's That's a place to begin..... FWIW , the external top oiling tubing is a patch for when the crappy paraffin based oil or lack of any oil changes for years , caused the internal passages to clog up , GM even made cute little kits for this , it's a good thing , as long as you have oil coming out the rocker's weep holes above idle , you're good to go. Unless this engine is guaranteed to run , it's a $150 tops value core . OTOH , it may well have been yanked from a Hot Rod project and therefore ready to go back into daily service with just a major tune up and re painting.....
