Just drive straight then~ Sorry, couldn't help it.
I know that Ken has posted a link to the shop manual, and have seen it here by others. If someone doesn't step forward, I'll catch that for you tomorrow. I believe I book marked it. That has to be a bit maddening, no?

Tried that Zig, but my arm got tired of waving at folks and I kept running over mailboxes:D
I looked thru both of my manuals but nothing about the horn button hookup. It stops at rhe horn bearing at the top of the column. I have the supplement and the repair man. What ever help would be appreciated. I know i'm leaving something out or not putting something in:confused:
    HAGD!

    Re:Horn

So Mike, did you pull the horn wire out of the column to make sure it didn't have a bare spot? Most of the time it will rub inside the shaft and cause the horn to blow. HTH

Ah Yesss.....I spent a few hours playing with my Horns. Turn things a little too tight and it honks, The contacts are tempermental. On my 47 it only works if I hit it in the upper left quadrant.

I had to grind some solders and contacts, pry it in another spot to get things just so. The repo's parts are not the best quality.

When I ran the new shaft in the column the wire looked great, but it was the old assbesstus covered and real brittle...........I guess I might have to look at that again and even the solder spot too.
    Thanx guys.

Apparently the manual must be on another computer. I can't find it on this one...
I was thinking about the wire that comes out of the column also. I want to replace mine, and I'm curious as to how it comes out.
    Good luck, Mike.

It runs straight down the column...then exits the column under the dash area through an eyebrow slit in the column IIRC. There is a small retainer nipple on some...others just slide out without a fight.

Pull your wheel. The wire is atached to the retainer bearing pressed into the top of the column tube. This prys out and a new replacement has the wire and bearing in an assembly. Remember to tie a string to the old wire before pulling it out! You can then tie the string to the new wire and pull it right out the hole in the column. The bearing just press fits in the shaft. It will usually quiet down the grinding bearing noise when you turn the wheel.

As far as the horn honking, you need to study the contact. It is hitting metal at some point in the wheel travel. I went through this with the F%&d I just did. Check the little spring loaded insert thingy between column and horn button that goes through the steering wheel.

    SWEET Brand 'F' !

All it needs is proper wheels and scrap that V-ate mill, drop in a nice correct 240 CID L6 with C-4 or maybe a three on the tree and over drive....

These were specifically designed by the FoMoCo for " Gentleman Farmers " and they hit the target dead center , too bad they flexed so much the design was dropped :( .

It was an origional V8 (292 Y block) with a 4speed on the floor. It now has a 390 FE with a 5 speed on the floor.

It now Hauls A$$! and is a very nice driver.
