I just wired up my cigarette lighter. The middle post I wired up to the the ignition switch and the tab, I grounded on the back of the dash. Is this correct? The only reason I ask, is because when I tried it for the first time, it burnt all of the wiring going to and from it  I even then tried using a thicker gauge wire (12GA) and the wiring still started to smoke when i pushed in the cig lighter.

Also, I was on my way home from a local drive-in and it was starting to get cooler out, so I thought I'd try out my newly wired up heater. Everything works fine for the first 20 min, then I smell plastic burning and then hear a pop! The inline resistor had popped open and failed. I was using the gold colored one the our host sells. I had it mounted pretty close to the actual heater box. Did it "pop" because its not the right resistor, or was it because it got to hot being right there beside the heater? Thanks for all the help guys, Cody

Most lighters ground through the outer shell to the dash. You had something touching the center element. ALWAYS put a fuse within 6 inches of a power source so burning wires don't burn more wires.

I got it fixed and fused :D Ol Chebby was right. The cig lighter innards were touching the outer shell that was grounded.

Haha, I dont smoke!... but I needed something to fill up the hole and a outlet that way I can plug christmas lights (on a wreath) in :D
