Send us a picture , that would help.
What kind tranny is in your truck ? You can find all information on the internet ; GM Transmission identification sites are many. Rebuild kits are easy to get to on EBAY ! Depends what you need to rebuild offcourse ?

    Tranny Fun

You didn't say if this is a side loader three speed (Saginaw) or top loader four speed compound low ('Granny Gear') Muncie tranny .

In either case the " 11D23 " can be decoded to tell you the year & month it mas made , IIRC , " CON5 " simply means Assembly Line (conveyor) # 5 .

Posting pix helps greatly , all of these old GM trannies are sturdy , well made units that are simple to overhaul or rebuild .

DO be sure to clean the gears well & inspect for tiny hairline cracks ! very common and lead to exploding tranny when you least expect it  .

At the very least you can hang the gears from a coat hanger & tap them with a wrench , if not cracked , they'll ring like a bell , if cracked they'll make a ' thud ' sort of sound when tapped .

    Oh , Yeah ~

The beat to crap sliding first gear with the straight cut teeth that are all ripped to shreds on one side ? it's designed to be flipped over and re used again , won't be silent but WILL be good to go for another 50 years....

    Hi All:

I checked the casting number today and it is 591958. Now I have to get an adapter to download pics from the camera to the computer so I can post pics of my latest project.
    later
