I am thinking about doing a front end swawp on my 65 C10 long wide. What i would like to know is are there any front ends that come pretty standard with disk breaks?

I would like to know Year, Make, and Model because my local junk yards arnt very helpfull and expect us to know exactly what we are looking for.

If at ALL possible I want a strait swap, no cutting or welding since i have never dont that befor.

WOO HOO SUPER BOWL SUNDAY IS TODAY!!!!!!!!

Hi. I am rebuilding a 62 lwb truck and wanted disc brakes as well. You should verify this but I have heard/read from several sources that a disc brake front end will bolt up directly to your frame with the exception of 1 or 2 of the holes. This front end would be from the 1/2 ton Chevrolets 1970-72 as I think disc brakes were an option and then became standard in 1972. I didn't wind up doing it because I have torsion bar front suspension and decided to keep it stock. Another alternative if all your looking for is disc brakes is a disc brake kit. The forum host and others offer complete bolt on kits. A plus is your front end is CHEAP to rebuild versus a 60-62! You can even get dropped spindles! Good luck.

Start with the 72 and up for disc brakes. It will also require a new idler arm from the crossmembers year that will need to be mounted BY You. ( Not a Bolt in )

If you are not going to power steering, verify what pitman arm will work with your steering box and the front end cross link.

If you get the crossmember, grab the master cylinder and proportioning valve, or buy those new.

i swapped in a 1980 crossmember, steering, and spindles.be sure you won't want to go with drop spindles later.you can get drop disc brake spindles to fit your truck for 230.00.

    UPDATE*****

I do plan on putting drop spindles on my truck, prob 2" and also a 1.5" spring drop ( 6" on the back ). I was thinking about doing the kit from ChevyDuty but to buy the convertion kit and then buy the drop kit was alot of money. I would rather get a diff front end and then do the drop spindles.

Hey Kevin, looks like I am going to be playing follow the leader! :7

I have considered this before, but, because of my limited knowledge in this area, I did not know that it would be possible to do a bolt-in swap with OEM parts. I thought I would have to buy an expensive kit. Can you provide any information about what is involved and maybe some progress pics as you do the swap?

    Thanks!
