This is a quote from a consumer advocate web site. IMHO most of these folks are just legislating a lack of common sense into the public, but ...at this web site are some neat thoughts and facts concerning scams that have been foisted upon the automotive public. www.neptune.spacebears.com/cards/legal. It summarizes the latest in Federal Trade Commission actions against oil additive folks and others parting us from our dollars with snake oil. "Would you believe, some shysters out there are trying to sell bum products! We're not going to name any names... who are we kidding?? We love naming names!! Take the information provided here and protect yourselves! This is all legitimate stuff -- we don't publish rumors...
That link doesn't work. Here is a link that should work. http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/legal/ If you check out their home page, they have a lot of very useful information. Thanks for telling us about this. JP
I've been using Slick 50 since it sold for about $30 + a quart. I have never had a serious engine problem in the many years that I have put it in my machines. I think it sells for about $15 now and won't cause me to go bankrupt anytime in the near future. As far as some of the other products mentioned at the web site, they make outragous claims about running your engine without oil. Now that is stupid.
I can attest to the effective properties of "SLICK 50"! I went to work one night (graveyard shift), and as usual during that time of year I left work when it was still dark. I started the car and drove home as usual. I noticed the oil pressure wasn't showing, but blew it off as a fuse because the temperature gage never went above normal for 35 miles at 60mph. I can only guess I left a puddle in the parking lot at work and didn't know it. I checked the oil as a matter of precaution and couldn't get a reading on the stick! Come to find ot the rear main seal had blown out and I lost every drop the seal would release. I found this out after getting it repaired at the shop I drove the car to, even after the seal was gone. I stand behind it's claims of protection. I also put it in my lawn mowers and can say this; I had a push mower that lasted me 18 years without service! Changing air filters on a regular basis probably helped too.
