I have questions regarding the frame dimensions, from a regular pick up and pannel trucks. Also best place to find 3/4 to one parts for 64-66 trucks
RE: wanted experts on 1 ton trucks i have a one ton. i also have a shop manual which lists the different wheelbase dimensions.
RE: wanted experts on 1 ton trucks where do you normally find front suspension parts of these trucks. The chevy dut catalog mostly covers 1/2 and some 3/4 parts. ButI did not see alot of 1 ton items?
RE: wanted experts on 1 ton trucks What suspension parts are you needing? I have had pretty good luck finding parts for my '63 C-20 at the local NAPA dealer. Things like ball joints and tie rod ends should be off the shelf items. I've been able to get springs from a local spring shop. ##### truck also has quite a few parts. The only absolute dead end I have ran into is trying to find rear cab mounts. They were different for the 3/4 tons. I had to build a bracket on the frame and use a 1/2 ton mount.
RE: wanted experts on 1 ton trucks I tried auto zone and they too have a few suspension parts. I am not sure if I told you that the body on my pannel is very bad (rusty) and am looking into removing the body and and use tha regular cab and bed budt to sit over my one ton frame. However I think the one ton has leaf springs on the back right? Do you think this is possible?
RE: wanted experts on 1 ton trucks I am not an expert, but I will throw in the info I have. I have a 1965 GMC 3/4 ton truck that supposedly has a 1-ton suspension. The guy I bought it from said it was upgraded to one ton suspension, and at least 3 different people have confirmed that it is. (A huge load of furniture and appliance kind of vouched for the fact as well ;-)) This truck looks just like any other 3/4 ton truck, same body and bed, etc. The springs are a double set of leaf springs on each side, and the rear end is a Dana 60 with full floating rear axles and 8 lug bolt pattern. If any measurements would help, I will be happy to take them for you. I can take some pics as well. Not sure how much this helps as you actually have a 1-ton frame, but just thought I'd throw out what I have.
RE: wanted experts on 1 ton trucks I have a 1965 Chevy C30 Stepside with a nine foot bed. It is rated as a 1 ton. It has the standard 8 lug front and single 8 lug floating rear. I plan to upgrade the front to a 84 c20 (Suburban) or a 82 c30 dually. I am not sure if the dually dimensions are the same by the 84 c20 front end including crossmemer is a close swap with only 2 holes needing adjustment. Hope this helps
RE: wanted experts on 1 ton trucks First. What is a floating rear end. and yes pictures will help. Does the C20 front end fits the 64-66 frames? because I would like to eventually put disc brakes on the front?
